Evert Jan Nagtegaal and the Art of Song
– Saudade –
A black shawl, a Portuguese guitar, a voice and a lot of feeling; this simple image characterises the Portuguese song Fado, today a recognised symbol of Portugal. It is a song that tells about feelings, heartbreak, nostalgia for someone who has left, the everyday and conquests. Daily happiness and unhappiness are the boundless themes that continue to inspire Fado singers (Fadistas). In this hour, you will hear Fado by Amalia Rodrigues, of course, but also new influences by Mísia and Cristina Branco. The Portuguese lyrics will be spoken by Diego Prista.
