Thea Derks follows the musical trail of Reinbert de Leeuw on the basis of her 2014 biography Reinbert de Leeuw: man or melody. The pianist, composer and conductor has played a very important role in Dutch musical life. Today works by Van Baaren, Vermeulen, Bartók, Maderna and Ives.
In 1962 De Leeuw studied composition in the renowned " Monday morning class " of Kees van Baaren at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag. Between times he continued his piano studies at the Muzieklyceum in Amsterdam. He lives with Hennie de Swaan, in whose home the cellist René van Ast and the oboeist Han de Vries also live. In 1963 he assists with a celebration concert for the 75th birthday of Matthijs Vermeulen, an experience which makes a deep impression on him.
