A second chance for Hummel part IX

sun 13 sep 2015

On Tuesday 15 September from 19.00 to 20.00 CET, Thijs Bonger continues his journey through the life and work of Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778- 1837). In part III we heard that Hummel was just 25 years old and still a very inexperienced conductor when had to replace the ailing Haydyn for the premiere of his oratorium ‘Die Schöpfung’. This piece was so successful in both Europe and America that it is no surprise that  Hummel came up with the idea to compose something similar. In his case, the inspiration was the Biblical story of Moses that describes how Moses was able to save the persecuted Jewish people by miraculously parting the Red Sea.. In the programme you can listen to an extensive selection from the oratorium ‘Die Durchzug durchs Rote Meer’. Expressive and invocative music that unjustifiably is no longer performed live. In addition, you can listen to a joyful excerpt from a piano trio and a series of ingenious variations for piano on a theme from Mozart's successful opera ‘Die Entführung aus dem Serail’.
