Thijs Bonger, the compiler and presenter of A Second Chance for Hummel, has the following to say about part VIII of the series that is broadcast on Tuesday 11 August at 19:00:
"Our journey through the life and work of Johann Nepomuk Hummel(1778-1837) reaches the war year 1809. Napoleon's armies are winning one battle after the other. Vienna is bombed and captured. What influences do these dramatic events have on the lives of the composers that are living there at the time? We hear fragments from works by Haydn, Schubert and Beethoven, but of course, primarily music from Hummel himself."
