Our three-part series about folk music from Andalusia starts on Friday 28 February from 21:00 – 22:00. The folk music of Andalusia is deeply rooted in the religious music of the region and that is particularly noticeable during the Easter period.
Easter week is an important festival during which the people express their love for music, poetry and drama with a great intensity and almost everybody gets involved.
During the programme we will be playing music that first appeared on records on the English Argo label, and that has not yet been re-released on CD. The programme will include detailed explanations of the meaning of the songs.
You will also hear two new forms of flamenco that were sung by Camarón de la Isla together with Paco de Lucia on guitar. At the time of writing we heard that Paco Lucia had died at the age of 66. The Concertzender will soon be broadcasting a number of programmes in his memory.
