A chance to listen to rare recordings of Malinke music from Guinea on Friday 26 September from 21:00 to 22:00 CET. The recordings were made in the seventies and appeared on the Vogue label.
The Malinke live in West-Africa in an enormous area that includes north east Guinea and south west Mali.
The Malinke culture was at its height around 1350, the time when Arab travellers first wrote about their musical instruments. The Malinke include families of professional musicians called griots, The Diabaté and Kuyaté are prominent griots or djeli.
