Over the Wall

The Berlin Wall came down 25 years ago. The Cultural Interfaces department is commemorating the anniversary of this event with a number of special programmes.

The fall of the Berlin Wall is celebrated on 9 November 2014. The Concertzender is broadcasting a number of programmes in the week leading up to this date. Still to come…

Thursday 6 November from 22:00 to 24:00 CET. Folk It!

A double programme with folk music from Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union from the period leading up to the fall of the wall.

Thursday 6 November / Friday 7 November from 01:00 CET:  The Night

Programme maker Arthur Olof started a series of programmes in 2011 that looked at the music that was produced during the period of the reconstruction (Perestrojka) and subsequent collapse (‘Destroyka’) of communism in Eastern Europe. This period reached its climax with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the disintegration of the Soviet Union. During this night we will broadcast a number of the programmes from this series that present music from the countries that became independent after 1989.

Music from the three main centres of classical music in the DDR.

Saturday 8 November 21.00 CET: Chanson

We remember the fall of the Berlin Wall with Wolf Biermann, Hildergard Knef, Herbert Grönemeyer and Bertolt Brecht.
