00:35. Voice and Electric Signal. 2018. (excerpt)
This set was developed for Todays’Art festival 2018 for a mono setup, which is very unusual for me. My voice is used at the beginning, as an introduction of what I am doing on stage, more as a source to process slowly into a noise structure (accordingly it is very hard to understand and it’s supposedly not understandable), and electric signals are tweaked on metal string board during the live performance with CV generator and analog amplifier. The signals all go into DSP patches in laptop. Every gesture doesn’t have a meaning but is only there for sounds, and then they flows in time. My aim was to deal with the moment, as the electric signal always jumps unexpectedly, and I can’t predict what will come out next, which was the point to use such a setup.

19:06. Bamboo for Two Bambusoides and Computer. (a pre-version of what Ji Youn Kang is going to perform at Sonic Acts). (excerpt)
The distinctive characteristics of the traditional bamboo flute in Korea is its
dissonance, frictional tone color and airy noise. Its instability in tone resembles
ones in nature, and it has become a strong role in many traditional Ensemble
music from Korea. This piece is composed upon the goal to create interesting
ways to reveal its characteristics, by exploring and utilizing its physical body and
giving an attention to its sensitivity, and integrating well the means of
electronics!

46:31. Bamboos. Performed by Mei Yi Lee and Ji Youn Kang.
Bamboos, their bodies, their own resonating voices. Every other gesture drives from there, as the performer continuously tries to distort, differentiate, and control them until the instruments and performer become strongly linked together. The whole space, occupied by bamboos’ stubborn voices whose struggles are running and jumping all over, later on becomes part of the resonating body, singing and breathing all together.
60:00. End.
