Soul Jazz from the fifties
Tenor saxophonist Hal Singer is a trailblazer of soul jazz. He is particularly known for the R&B hit Cornbread. Singer grew up in the swing era. He moved to France in the late sixties and made socially critical records, including one with David Murray. You could say he was a quirky and versatile horn player.
