Dutch Jazz on CD, compiled by Jan Verwey.
This is a rerun of Saturday 16 February 2019.
Theme: new CDs (1).
The band Zootcase consists of pianist Dimitar Bodurov,
who lives in Brussels, trumpet player Eric Vloeimans,
bassist Mihail Ivanov and drummer Jens Dúppe.
Their new album is quite a nice one, with the musicians’ own works.
Lotz of Music is the band of master flute player Mark Alban Lotz,
who really plays all kinds of existing transverse flutes.
The ensemble has existed for years and rather often changes composition,
and also guest musicians are invited every now and then. Their music is of high quality and is often written by Mark.
Leo’s Drugstore is a band from the Dutch bulb-growing area, and is led by
drummer Pim de Boer. This band plays fairly good bebop,
judging by these pieces: Spiral of Kenny Barron and
Wisper Not of Bennie Golson; complex compositions in septet strength.
Finally, the young jazz singer Maaike den Dunnen, we really should watch her! She is very creative in her compositions and solos. Maaike studied in New York
and with Fay Claassen, something we can certainly hear. A great talent!
