Saskia Laroo is one of the very few female trumpet players who are active in jazz, pop, salsa, funk, world music and dance. She was born in Amsterdam in 1959 and started to play the trumpet at the age of 8. After studying mathematics at the university of Amsterdam for a short while she switched to music and has been active in that for more than three decades. She has worked with a variety of groups, at first mostly on the contra bass in combination with the trumpet but eventually the trumpet became her most important instrument. Saskia Laroo combines all kinds of styles in an informal way to a music style that she herself calls "jazz now" or "Swingin’ body-music". It is a lively mix of hiphop, jazz, salsa, funk, reggae and world music, that many other artists don’t dare to try. She is band leader of a dozen different formations with whom she performs all over the world. Often for a crowd that likes to dance.
