Musicians Corner with Robert Vermeulen
Robert Vermeulen (1957) studied jazz piano in The Hague and later continued his studies in New York with Kenny Werner and Barry Harris. His piano trio has played with American musicians such as Chet Baker, Herb Geller, and Tom Harrell. You can hear him perform with his Amsterdam Jazz Quintet on the CD ‘Playground’, featuring singer Fay Claassen. In 2003, he formed the Ugly Beauty quartet, focusing mainly on the music of Thelonious Monk. He also started the Talking Cows quartet with saxophonist Frans Vermeerssen, recording three albums and touring across Europe and beyond. His latest trio is called ‘Under Construction’, which recently released the EP ‘Groundfloor’.
Robert Vermeulen has been a piano teacher (Jazz & Pop) at the ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem since 1984.
