The history of twentieth century opera. 1969B
1969, Belgium starts using postal codes and introduces mandatory drivers’ licenses, VAT is introduced in the Netherlands, the Concorde makes its first flight and the Boeing 747 has its first test flight. The Dutch pension fund PGGM is established and immediately becomes one of the biggest funds in Europe. Bert and Ernie make their first appearance on Dutch television.
In the land of music there are few productions but it becomes apparent that the avant-garde is here to stay. A new generation of composers is influenced by Berg, Stravinsky and Schonberg. Clearly, opera will never be the same.
