CC-radio dives into the world of net labels and Creative Commons licensed music. A special world with passionate musicians and devotees; Part 10 – Makunouchi Bento & Cagey House.
In this broadcast again two very different artists, each with their own fans and devotees. Still there is some similarity in style between the two; sonic hauntology.
Since 2000 Felix Petrescu and Valentin Toma form the duo which continues by the name of Makunouchi Bento in 2001. The name stems from a traditional Japanese lunch box. A high-gloss wooden box separated in quadrants with several delicacies. Especially fascinating about the music of Makunouchi Bento is the Romanian origin and almost always existing folklore which sounds in almost all of their music. Several of their albums return in end of the year lists on a regular basis.
Of an entirely different order (and at the same time really not) is Cagey House; or Dave Keifer from Baltimore USA. His music which sometimes comes across as the demo-songs from cheap synthesizers has a deep and especially unmistaken movement which goes hand in hand with the broadest smile. This busy musician who saw the light in the music of Lygeti and Stockhausen released many albums on net labels all over the world. For an extensive search you can dive into www.archive.org where a lot of the released CC-music has been stored.
