The guitar in the previous century XI. A monthly series featuring guitar music from the previous century, with each episode including a guitar concert. Today’s focus is on several composers who experimented with new techniques for the guitar.
The Chinese composer Tan Dun was influenced by the technique of the pipa, a Chinese stringed instrument. The Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera used guitar techniques from the Argentine pampas. For Brian Ferneyhough, innovation lies mainly in rhythm.
