Four recent released albums; ‘From Andalucia to Golshahr’, flamenco music played by Hossein Kamani; ‘A Search for CMS’, by DJ Blue Flamingo; ‘A Curva Da Cintura’, a collaboration between kora-harp lute virtuoso Toumani Diabaté from Mali and the Brazilian pop stars Arnaldo Antunes and Edgard Scandura; and finally, recordings from the album ‘Silfra’.
We start this programme with the album ‘From Andalucia to Golshahr’, flamenco music played by Hossein Kamani, a young guitar player from Iran who is influenced by Paco Pena, Paco de Lucia and Tomatito. Kamanis playing easily calls up the spirit of the Andalusian flamenco music. After this – on the album ‘A Search for CMS’ – by DJ Blue Flamingo, collected gems from the Kenyan music scene from the fifties, sixties and seventies, found on old and forgotten labels. So, historic recordings, varying from simple songs with guitar accompaniment to music based on the Congolese rumba and on the funky beats of the Benga music from Kenya.
In the second half hour of the programme, attention for the album ‘A Curva Da Cintura’, a collaboration between kora-harp lute virtuoso Toumani Diabaté from Mali with the Brazilian pop stars Arnaldo Antunes and Edgard Scandura. It creates an Afro-Brazilian fusion, rock in combination with African blues and roots music.
At the end of the programme, recordings from the album ‘Silfra’ (Icelandic for ‘Silver’). ‘Silfra’ was recorded on Iceland and it is an improvisation project of the famous American classical violinist Hilary Hahn and the German pianist Hauschka. With colourful improvisations, the duo unfold dreamy and mysterious sound landscapes.
