Thema on Monday 28 October (20.00) features the Belgian-Dutch electric guitar quartet Zwerm. Zwerm also open the Rumor Festival in Utrecht on Thursday 31 October with a concert in Vredenburg Leeuwenbergh.
Zwerm are the guitarists Johannes Westendorp, Bruno Nelissen, Kobe van Cauwenberghe and Toon Callier. They have recently produced a cd of ‘One-Page Pieces’, compositions that fit on a single page and consist of a simple set of instructions, a few notes and explanatory diagrams.
The cd is titled ‘Underwater Princess Waltz’ (New World Records) and includes compositions by Alvin Curran, Christian Wolff, Earle Brown, Daniel Goode, Nick Didkovsky and others. Thema will preview several pieces from this new cd together with a remarkable interpretation of Terry Riley’s ‘In C’ by the rock band The Styrenes.
Zwerm will be opening the Rumor Festival in Utrecht on Thursday 31 October with a concert in Vredenburg Leeuwenbergh (www.rumor.nl). They are also on the VPRO TV-program Vrije Geluiden on Sunday 27 October (Ned. 1, 10.30 uur).
